What is RailsConsens.us?
Plan
RailsConsens.us intends to be a guide for the Rails community to recommend the current best solutions for the tasks involved in building a Rails site.
Why
One of the frustrating problems with Rails is that much of the documentation is scattered across the web, and deprecated solutions frequently have better search rankings. RailsConsens.us has internal mechanisms to favor recommendations made recently, and for versions of Rails that are in active use.
Initial Anti-Intentions (subject to review...)
RailsConsens.us is NOT intended to help determine if Rails itself is appropriate for a particular use.
RailsConsens.us is NOT intended to help you choose which editor/IDE/whatever... As a general rule, if it doesn't require changes within your Rails app, it doesn't belong in RailsConsens.us. An exception is made for which httpd/application server you should use.
RailsConsens.us is NOT intended to help you choose which is the best gem for some relatively obscure need. General rule: if something isn't going to be used by at least 1 in 20 Rails apps, it doesn't belong in RailsConsens.us
RailsConsens.us is NOT going to be extremely detailed (at least by default). The goal is that a Rails developer should be able to create an account, and set their recommendations within 5 to 10 minutes of discovering the site.
